Patara brief information about

Befitting of its’ significant historical importance, the town of Patara feels like it has stayed buried in time. Known as ‘Patara town’ by tourists the village of Gelemis is an intimate and unspoiled touristic hub perched on the edge of the astonishing ancient site of Patara. The centre of the town is dotted with traditional Pensions, garden-themed bars and a few privately run restaurants serving mouth-watering local dishes set in modest, traditional surroundings. The area is green and plush, thriving with plants and flowers which create a magical and exotic atmosphere.

Without doubt the main attraction in Patara is the gated national park. The boundaries of this vast area encompass the multitude of ruins from the ancient city and Patara beach. The beach is quite a feature in itself, an 18 km long stretch of white sands which trace the coast of the Turkish Riviera. Given the sheer size of the beach, you never feel overly crowded, even in the height of summer. Much of the ancient city is still being uncovered, but visitors will delight at the monumental amphitheatre and parliament building, plus the original walkway, lighthouse and various tombs are uncovered and quite a sight to behold.
